Ubisoft Montreal Tapped for Far Cry Sequel
Teaser site hints at African setting for new shooter.
Ubisoft and German developer CryTek turned a lot of heads when they released the tropical shooter Far Cry for PC in 2004. Since then the series has mutated into various console iterations, selling millions of copies in the process. Early next year, Ubisoft is taking it back home.
In a terse press notice put out on Thursday, Ubisoft said that it's award-winning studio in Montreal is working on Far Cry 2, the first full sequel to the PC hit.
The game has so far been announced only for PC, and Ubisoft has pre-declined any further comment on the game.
A teaser site for Far Cry 2, available at www.farcrygame.com, carries a distinct African theme and offers views of the African veld, perhaps offering the first hints at the game's setting.
John Parkes, the head of the company's European adventures, said Ubisoft hopes Far Cry 2 "will have the same impact again on the FPS genre landscape".
We'll find out when Far Cry 2 ships in spring 2008.
