Halo 3 to Feature Online Fourplay
Two-player co-op play? Pffft. Bungie's got that beat. New screen inside.
There was a minor fracas earlier this year when Bungie sidestepped the issue of co-operative multiplayer over Xbox Live in Halo 3. The company has this week cleared things up.
When it arrives this autumn, Halo 3's main story mode will support up to four-player co-operative play over either Xbox Live or locally through System Link, Bungie said.
This co-op campaign mode is selectable straight from the main game lobby, but it doesn't support hot-seat play. You won't be able to jump into a co-op game already in progress as you can in some other games.
Once your friends have joined you in the game lobby, you'll be able to pick up from the start or from any of your save points.
You won't all be running around in Spartan armour either. Expect fights aplenty with the news that only the first player will play as Master Chief. The second will control the Arbiter, last seen in Halo 2's story mode, and there are two new Elite characters for players 3 and 4.
Each character will start with their own unique weapon, but, other than that, Bungie says the characters will play identically.
Halo 3 will be out for Xbox 360 on 26 September.
