UK 360 Price Cut Confirmed, Elite Dated
Both models trimmed just in time for the arrival of the third system later this week.
With all models of the Xbox 360 getting a price cut in the US recently it was only a matter of time until Microsoft did likewise in the UK. That time is now.
Starting Friday both the Premium and Core Xbox 360 systems will be have their prices cut, and Microsoft will at last bring the Xbox 360 Elite model to Europe too.
The Premium Xbox 360, previously £280, will now sell for £250, while the Core system undergoes a similar price cut to £180. These new prices come into effect on 24 August.
The new Xbox 360 Elite, which complements its black finish with a 120 GB hard drive and an HDMI connector for high-definition TVs, will start at £300 when it debuts on Friday.
Microsoft also has a range of black accessories should you wish to go the piecemeal route. The black wireless controller will sell for £32, but the real sticker-shock is the £130 retail price of the standalone 120 GB hard drive.
The arrival of the larger capacity 120 GB hard drive in Europe suggests that Microsoft is gearing up to begin offering for download movies and TV shows - as it has been doing since 2006 in the US.
The company did not return calls for comment on this possibility.
