Star Wars: The Force Unleashed: Interview
We chat with LucasArts about this new Star Wars game, which bridges the gap between Eps III and IV.

"These two technologies are going to work together to create a world that feels so real and so living that it's really going to be the perfect stage to tell this next chapter in the Star Wars saga," says Suey.
For all the technology boosting, LucasArts is, perhaps not surprisingly, reluctant to talk too much about the actual gameplay to be found in The Force Unleashed.
What's clear is that the Force is something quite different this time. Wielding a lightsaber, once seen as a staple feature of a Jedi, is just one way in which characters in the game can use the Force. Instead, they'll now be able to use it much more actively, in defensive and offensive situations, holding back attacks or push-attacking groups of enemies.
Suey is similarly zippered when it comes to more details on the game's storyline, which will see you travel around the galaxy, from the Wookiee world of Kashyyyk to a TIE Fighter construction facility. It's not clear why the apprentice is so important, only that he is, and that he'll turn out to be one of the key bridging characters between the two trilogies.
But just because this is a game, don't expect LucasArts to skimp on the juicy twists that fuel this space opera. There will be much to keep fans hanging on, says studio publicist Chris Baker. "It's 'I am your father' kind of stuff," he says, referring to Darth Vader's revelation that he is Luke Skywalker's dad in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
"George [Lucas] had a lot of feedback on this," says Suey. "We took a lot of stuff to George and he helped us build up some of ideas that were in their foetal stages for us. So he really brought a lot to the process of fleshing out that story."
The end result is a story that the team is aching to tell, but one that we'll need to be patient to find out more about.
"I was at a bar the other day with a friend," says Suey, "and I wanted to tell him so bad it was painful."
Your pain will be relieved when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in spring 2008. There are also versions coming for PlayStation 2 and PSP and another for DS.
