Sony Clips Wings of Warhawk Download
It's out today - just be sure you remember which account you used to download it.
Sony's slightly delayed air-combat game Warhawk will be available from the PlayStation Store from Thursday. However, unlike most of the other content sold on the store, Warhawk will be more restricted in what you can do with it.
Rather than letting you download the game and share it with other users (even on the same machine), as Sony has allowed for previous download games, Warhawk will be tied to the PlayStation Network account used to download the game.
This has rankled some gamers, leading to Sony to respond, via semi-official blog Three Speech.
A statement on the blog says that Sony's decision to link the game download to the PSN account used was made to "protect our investment in this ground-breaking game and maintain our ability to offer a 24-hour free online gameplay experience".
The game can still be downloaded on up to five different systems, but only the purchasing PSN account will be authorized to play the game.
Several angry commenters on Three Speech wondered aloud why Sony didn't instead link the download to the system, allowing any account holder using the same PS3 to play the game. We asked Sony but representatives could not comment at that time.
The company did say in its statement that the retail version of Warhawk, which will be out in September, would not have these restrictions.
