Retro Quits Metroid
After five years with Samus, the team has had enough.
There are few games coming to the Wii this year that have the buzz of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, the closing chapter in the trilogy created by US developer Retro Studios. Now, after five years on the series, Retro is calling it quits.
Corruption director Mark Pacini told Yahoo! this week that the team's first Wii game will also be the last Metroid game from the company.
"We are taking a break from Metroid series and from Samus. I'm sure there will be other titles created, but as far as Retro Studios is concerned, we're taking a break for a little bit.," Pacini said.
Though the Metroid Prime series has been a winner for Nintendo, it wasn't always a sure thing. There were doubts when the reins were first handed over to the team based in Austin, Texas.
Pacini said that even Retro had been thrown by the Wii's unique control options. He said that it was only nine months into development on Corruption that the team found out about the Wii remote.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii is out now in the US and will be released in Europe on 26 October.
