Rein: Unreal Tournament 3 Date Not Firm
It will be done when it's done - but what about that timed exclusivity?
A year ago this time Epic was making headlines with Gears of War, the Xbox 360 exclusive that ended up as one of the big winners over the holiday season. The company is hoping for the same with new shooter Unreal Tournament 3. If it can get it out in time, that is.
Widely expected to arrive during November, Unreal Tournament 3's immediate future is now in some doubt after Epic's Mark Rein hinted on the team's message board that the release date was merely a target.
"We do not know exactly when the game will be completed," Rein wrote on the Unreal Tournament forums. "All we've said is that we're hoping for a November release but as you know we value getting it right over getting it right now so there's no guarantee of that."
Pushing back the release date would throw a wrench into the works for Sony. In July, Epic revealed that it was going to release the game as a timed exclusive on the PlayStation 3 in 2007, with the Xbox 360 version to follow next year.
Update: Rein told Next Generation that the game has not been delayed. "Nothing has changed at this point. We're working toward a November release," he said, adding that he wanted to remind fans that Epic values "quality over release date".
