Wii Takes Over the World
When will the Wii become the best-selling console of this generation? It already has, according to one report.
With every successive generation Nintendo hardware has become more and more unpopular, but the Wii has reversed that trend.
According to the Financial Times, official numbers from research groups in Europe, North America and Japan for sales to customers have the Wii selling 9 million units as of the end of August, putting it ahead by a nose of the incumbent Xbox 360, which sold 8.9 million units since November 2005.
Nintendo haven't yet made any comments on the sales figures and did not respond when we approached them for confirmation of the numbers.
The success of the Wii will come as sweet encouragement for Nintendo, which has taken a radically different tack in this new generation of consoles.
While Sony and Microsoft have powered ahead with HD-pushing consoles, Nintendo has decided on a different route, focusing on family friendly fair such as its well-received Brain Training games and Wii Sports.
