Activision Picks Up Project Gotham Creator
Bizarre is just about to start two games for the company.
The strength of the Project Gotham Racing series was such that you could be forgiven for forgetting that Liverpool-based developer Bizarre Creations is actually one of the more successful independent game houses around. Or at least it used to be.
Bizarre said on Wednesday that it is joining forces with Activision, a move the publisher described as an important part of the company's overall growth plan, which also saw it snap up RedOctane and its Guitar Hero franchise recently.
"Bizarre are happy because it means we're completely safe as a company, we all get to stay exactly the same, and we now have the opportunity to stretch our legs with some brand new game concepts," the developer said in a statement.
But what does this mean for games already in development? Not much, according to Bizarre.
The Club will still be released as a Sega game and the Geometry Wars series will carry on as usual, with the latest game being released by Sierra.
If you're thinking that this means we'll soon be seeing Project Gotham Racing on the PlayStation 3, you're not alone, but Bizarre hasn't commented directly on the matter.
"Our future titles can be on whatever we please - we are a truly multiplatform studio now," Bizarre said. The company's not planning to start porting all its games over to any platform right now, "we simply have that option available to us," it said.
That's not to say there's nothing new coming. Bizarre said it is about to start working on two new games for Activision, including one racing game and one character game.
