Oblivion Downloads Conclude with Freebie
In stark contrast to how they started. Also word on what's happening with Shivering Isles on the PS3.
It was nearly two years ago that Bethesda summoned the thunder of pundit and gamer disapproval when it charged players to download horse armour for its then-new massively singleplayer RPG Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
Much has happened over the past two years, including a PlayStation 3 version of the game. But it's Xbox 360 (and PC) owners who will be getting the next downloadable content from the developer.
From Monday, 15 October, Oblivion players will be able to get Fighter's Stronghold, the last downloadable update for the game. The content will be free, at least for the first week.
Fighter's Stronghold includes Battlehorn Castle a new home away from home for your character. You'll be able to decorate your new digs with the spoils of your victories or keep it minimalist, if that's what you prefer, but you'll need to earn the keys to the castle first.
Writing on Bethesda's blog, Pete Hines said that the company is also working on a way to make Shivering Isles, the expansion pack out for Xbox 360 and PC earlier this year, available to PS3 owners - perhaps through the PlayStation Store.
Hines did not confirm a release for the expansion but he said "it's looking good".
PS3 owners still looking to pick up the game will be able to buy Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion: Game of the Year Edition, which include the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine content. That version of the game is due out later this year.
