Building a Better BioShock
Creator Ken Levine wonders aloud how best to add to his shooter hit.
Ken Levine has a problem. He's stuck with a hit game, BioShock, and the potential for adding to it through downloadable content, but he's not sure exactly how to bring the two together.
In an interview with Games For Windows magazine, excerpted at sister site 1UP>, the BioShock creator says that combat is one area where the game could be boosted, hinting at new powers to come.
"I think that certainly BioShock's combat experience is great, but it could be broader. I'm a little more confused as far as how to expand the narrative experience," he told the magazine.
Levine cited Blizzard's Diablo II as an example of the right way to add to a game, "because it enhanced the original game, but also extended the game, too".
He added that he doesn't like the idea of simply adding to the story.
BioShock has won praise from fans and reviewers alike since it came out in September. Early sales were so strong that there is already talk from 2K Games' parent company Take Two about expanding the game through sequels.
As yet, neither Levine nor developer 2K Boston has said anything specifically about a follow-up.
