BioWare, LucasArts Deal Reignites Star Wars RPG Talk
Is this silent confirmation of a KotOR MMORPG?
Canadian developer BioWare may have been recently snapped up by EA but the company has still got plenty of other irons in the fire. The latest comes by way of confirmation that the respected team is working on a new game for LucasArts.
"Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements, and we believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment," LucasArts' Jim Ward said in a press release.
Those "previous collaborations" includes Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, a Star Wars-themed RPG for the Xbox that had both fans and critics drooling.
The two would only say that the identity of the new game, which will be published by LucasArts and not EA, will be revealed later.
That hasn't stopped speculation online, which right now favours a massively multiplayer online RPG based in the Star Wars universe.
BioWare made headlines earlier this month when it was revealed that the company (together with Mercenaries developer Pandemic) had been bought by EA in a deal worth $860 million. The deal is expected to be completed by January.
BioWare's next game is the space RPG Mass Effect, which is coming to the Xbox 360 on 23 November.
