The story of Alone in the Dark takes place over several episodes, very much like TV dramas. Polloni has said in previous interviews how this can make for a better story structure than is allowed by the aping of the movie formula.
Taking an approach like that will immediately feel familiar to people who don't play many games, an audience that is important to Polloni and her team. She speaks of removing the barriers to entry, and how the gameplay is built around real-world logic.
Everyday items are a big part of the way Alone in the Dark plays, something that echoes the everyman nature of Carnby. Herve Sliwa, the lead game designer says the game has been designed with freedom in mind, giving players the chance to do what they want with the resources they have around them.
"You're just a normal guy in a paranormal situation," Sliwa says.
Alone in the Dark is coming for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2008.
