Say Hello to the New PlayStation 2
It's out later this year in Japan. Find out when it's coming to Europe.
Sony has confirmed talk of a new model of the PlayStation 2 this week, saying that the redesigned console will be released worldwide starting this November.
For now, only the Japanese details have been confirmed. The new PS2, which is both lighter and has an internal power supply, will go on sale in Japan on 22 November.
In Japan the new PS2 will cost 16,000¥ (around £67), the same price the current system has been selling for since last September, which implies that Sony has no plans to cut the price of the PS2 before Christmas - at least in Japan.
The new PS2 will come in three colours at launch in Japan: Charcoal Black, Ceramic White and Satin Silver.
Sony has yet to give out specific details for Europe but it did say that the console would be out here sometime in early 2008.
We contacted Sony representatives in the UK to find out more about the pricing of the new system. A spokesperson said the console is due to arrive at the same price as the current model, but he did not rule out a price drop before the console arrives next year.
