Microsoft Stomps Gears of War PC Bugs
If you have problems with the game when you pick it up on Friday, check out this easy fix.
Gears of War, the highly rated and monstrously successful Xbox 360 shooter, is coming to the PC this week. Along with all the new modes and features, the game is bringing something else along: a giant bug.
When you first start the PC version of the game it will try to do an update of Games for Windows Live. Unfortunately, due to a software problem, that's where things stall.
But Microsoft has come to its own rescue, posting a temporary workaround for the problem until it can get a full game update out to users.
The fix, detailed in a post on the Gamerscore Blog, involves simply restarting the game at an appropriate time. Microsoft says this will be a one-time process.
Gears of War for PC is mostly the same game that wowed so many reviewers of the Xbox 360 version last year, but with added multiplayer maps, enhanced graphics and new chapters in the singleplayer mode.
The game, which will work on Windows XP and Windows Vista PCs, will be out in the UK on Friday, 9 November.
