After Mix-Up, Uncharted Demo Goes Global
Get to grips with the dude raider today before next month's release.
PlayStation 3 owners eager to get an early look at Uncharted: Drake's Fortune were rudely rebuffed last week when the demo offered by Sony turned out to be region-locked. Developer Naughty Dog has fixed the glitch and apologized for putting people out.
Uncharted is Naughty Dog's new action-adventure game. It follows the exploits of Nathan Drake, a supposedly distant relative of Sir Francis Drake, who sets out to find treasure hinted at by his forebear.
A demo for the game arrived on the PlayStation Network but those outside the US were surprised to see a notice telling them that the demo would not work in their region.
Christophe Balestra, the co-president of the developer, said in a post on PlayStation.Blog that this wasn't part of the plan.
"As soon as we figured out the problem existed, Sam Thompson called me and I jumped into my car, drove to the office and fixed it right away," Balestra wrote.
"It's an honest mistake and we didn't try to prevent anybody from enjoying the Uncharted demo. I feel even more sorry because most of the people who experienced the problem are in Europe and I'm European myself."
He said the demo is now working for all regions.
As for the game itself, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is due in Europe on 7 December. Find out more in our interview from this summer with Naughty Dog's Richard Lemarchand.
