Report: Download Xbox Games, Movies on the Xbox 360
Halo, Fable and more headed straight for your hard drive thanks to imminent update.
Every few months Microsoft updates the Dashboard, the front-end software of the Xbox 360, adding new features and generally tidying things up. According to a report out this week, the next update will do quite a bit more than that.
A report at CVG (since pulled), via sister publication Official Xbox Magazine, says that Microsoft is planning to roll out its latest system update in early December. The site claims that included in the update will be support for two new download initiatives.
First, Xbox 360 owners will be able to download full Xbox games. The list of games mentioned includes some of the biggest games of Microsoft's previous console, including Halo: Combat Evolved, Fable, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Burnout 3. Games will cost around 1,200 Microsoft Points, or just over £10.
Also coming to the Xbox 360 are movie downloads. These high-definition movies need to be finished within 24 hours of starting, but they'll stay active on the Xbox 360 hard drive for two weeks before they're automatically deleted. Movies are expected to cost around £5.
Though the timing of the update would coincide with previous years, and Microsoft has said it will roll out movie downloads in 2007, the company has not confirmed these details, and calls to company representatives were not returned.
