Konami Aims High for Metal Gear Solid 4
Producer weighs in on early sales expectations for Kojima's big game.
Expectations for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are high among gamers and publisher Konami is under pressure to make good on the buzz it has built around the game.
In an interview with Reuters this week, Metal Gear Solid 4 assistant producer Ryan Patton said that the company is looking for the game to sell a million copies right from the start.
The article points out that this is made more challenging by the relatively slow uptake of the PlayStation 3.
Logic would dictate that spreading the burden over more than one console would make the task of meeting sales goals easier, and rumours have long suggested this would happen, but Konami is adamant that Metal Gear Solid is Sony's alone.
There has been persistent talk that, like many other high profile games have over the past year, Metal Gear Solid 4 would move to Xbox 360 too, but Konami has shot down such speculation.
"We're telling our fans that if you want to play Metal Gear Solid 4, you have to buy a PS3," Patton said.
