BioShock Gets Even-Wider-Screen
Now you can get the whole picture of the horror shooter.
Some Xbox 360 owners who bought this summer's hit shooter BioShock were dismayed to discover that the widescreen image displayed on the console was actually a cropped version of the full-screen view, meaning that they were seeing less than those with regular-dimension screens.
Developer 2K Games insisted that this was the way it meant for the game to be played, but it's gone ahead and opened up the widescreen view anyway, in a new update for the game now online.
The latest BioShock downloadable content for Xbox 360, available now from Xbox Live, adds a new option to turn on the new wider-screen mode. 2K Games says this was done in response to user feedback and comments on its own community site.
Also included in the update are four new plasmids, granting new in-game powers. These include the Sonic Boom offensive plasmid, and one that makes it cheaper to buy items from vending machines in the game.
There are new bragging rights for skilled players too, in the form of 100 Achievement points that can be earned by finishing the game on the hard difficult setting without dying.
The BioShock update is up now on the Xbox Live Marketplace. There is also a patch for the PC version of the game.
