David Jaffe on New PS2 Twisted Metal
One of several games he's working on for Sony. New screens inside.
David Jaffe has been making games for a long time but it was with God of War that his stock really shot up. Since then he's done a PlayStation Network game called Calling All Cars and starting work on a few others too, including Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition, an updated version of the car-action game for PlayStation 2.
Jaffe admits having second thoughts about accepting the task, especially since he's now on his own at his new studio. "We didn't want players to think we were making 'just another port. Eat Sleep Play is a lot of things, but one thing it's not is a 'port house,'" he writes on PlayStation.Blog.
From the looks of the game, this is no quick PSP-to-PS2 port. Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition includes the core of the 2005 PSP game and also a glut of extras, including four levels originally designed for Twisted Metal: Black 2, a behind-the-scenes documentary, interviews with Jaffe and director Scott Campbell, ending movies from the original Twisted Metal and even some parts that let you control lead character Sweet Tooth.
One frequently asked question among the commenters on Jaffe's post is why the game is being made for the PS2 - a question made more notable by the lack of any PS2 backwards compatibility in the new model of the PS3.
Is there a chance that the game will make its way to the PlayStation Store as a PS3 downloadable game, like Calling All Cars? A Sony spokesperson in Europe we spoke to could not say comment either way.
