Street Fighter IV Kicks It Old-School
First details for Capcom's long-awaited fighter sequel.
The weeks since Capcom teased us with the first word that work was underway on the next Street Fighter game have been filled with one main question: 2D or 3D? The answer: a bit of both.
As part of the run-up to a cover story on Street Fighter IV in the new issue of Electronic Gaming Magazine, sister site 1UP has posted the first details about the fighter and also the first in-game screen shot. (Click through to 1UP for the full image.)
The big news is confirmation that while the art will be in 3D, all the in-game action will be based in 2D - just like the majority of fans of the long-running series would want it.
Capcom has, however, decided to drop the traditional sprite animation for an approach that uses polygons.
At least four of the main cast of characters will be returning, including mainstays Ken and Ryu and also Chun-Li and Dhalsim.
The game will use the same six-button control scheme that has served the series so well over the decades but there will be new moves. Expect fanciful new fighting arenas from around the world too.
The latest issue of EGM is out soon in the US, and Capcom will likely follow that up with more Street Fighter IV details soon afterwards.
