Fight Promoter Don King Gets in the Ring
Prey developer and 2K Games' boxing game to feature a deep career mode. First details.
While British boxer Ricky Hatton was spending the worst part of his weekend on the floor of a Vegas ring, legendary boxing promoter Don King was having his name pushed to the front thanks to 2K Games' announcement of its new fighter.
King, who has worked alongside boxing's biggest names, including Muhammad Ali, Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson, is teaming up with 2K Games on a new game due for consoles and handhelds.
2K Games describes the new game, Don King Presents: Prizefighter, as an "in-depth, documentary-style" title. The game will take a more holistic approach to the sport, offering players a deep career mode that will let them live through the tears and the triumph of boxing.
In the announcement, King said he has "never seen anything come as close to recreating the thrill, the intensity, the courage and the spectacle of the sport".
Prizefighter is being developed in the UK, by Venom Games - the same team that brought Rocky Balboa to virtual life in the previous generation and whose work was most recently seen the Xbox 360 edition of Native American shooter Prey.
Don King Presents: Prizefighter will be out for Xbox 360, Wii and DS sometime during the spring of 2008.
