Ubi Predicts Big Assassin's Creed Numbers
Altair's adventure is even more popular than many people (including its creators) thought it would be.
From the start, Ubisoft has thought of Assassin's Creed not so much as a standalone game but rather as a full franchise, something anybody who's finish the game will immediately appreciate. It's a good thing then that Assassin's Creed has turned out to be one of the best selling games of the year.
Ubisoft said on Thursday that instead of the 3 million copies it was hoping the game would sell, it is now predicting that Assassin's Creed will hit 5 million copies by the end of 2008.
The company said in a press release Assassin's Creed had "greatly outstripped" its expectations for the game.
The game sold more than 2.5 million copies in its first month, which, according to Ubisoft, makes it the best-performing new franchise ever in the US.
That success is giving the company some breathing space in the board room, it seems, and Ubisoft is using it to push some of its new games into its next financial year.
The firm said on Thursday that some of its bigger games in development, including Tom Clancy's EndWar, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and Far Cry 2, would now all come out during its next financial year, which starts in April.
