Insomniac Back on PS3 with Resistance 2
Developer's third PlayStation 3 outing looks set to bump the shooter in every imaginable way.
The PlayStation 3 has been out for slightly more than a year and already Insomniac, developer of the recently released Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction, is working on its third game for the console. The identity of the new project may not be too much of a surprise.
Insomniac is well into development on a sequel to PlayStation 3 launch game Resistance: Fall of Man, according to US magazine Game Informer.
According to details from the magazine, unearthed by subscribers posting on NeoGAF, Insomniac is expanding on all elements of the successful shooter in Resistance 2.
Among the upgraded features is support for 60-player online multiplayer, a new singleplayer story mode, set in the US, and a separate story mode that allows for eight-player co-operative play.
The main story mode continues to tell of the invasion by the Chimera, following the alien infestation as it spreads to North America during the alternate-timeline's 1950s.
The second story mode stars a squad of players. Two people will be able to play offline on the same machine, or up to eight players can team up for online play.
The original Resistance was a hit with the online set and Resistance 2 should improve upon that. In addition to the larger player-count, Insomniac is also adding new character classes and allow players to follow their progress online through expanded statistics.
Sony representatives did not offer any further details on the game and could not say when the company would make a wider announcement.
