Cheaper Games for the PlayStation 3
Sony's The Best line to debut on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, European update all-but-confirmed.
The games industry is still celebrating a massive rise in total sales over last year. A significant portion of that rise is likely down to games for the new consoles simply costing more than those on previous generation machines. But PlayStation 3 owners with strained wallets could soon see respite from higher software prices.
Slightly more than a year after making its debut in Japan, the PS3 is gearing up to play host to a new budget line of games. The PlayStation 3 The Best line, essentially an updated version of what Europeans know as Platinum games, will start to arrive in mid-March.
Games included in the initial line-up include Resistance: Fall of Man, Folklore, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Ridge Racer 7, according to IGN. The games will come in at slightly more than half the price of first-release software in Japan.
Though only announced for Japan so far, it's a sure bet that Europe and North America will soon get their own budget lines.
"We have introduced a Platinum range of best selling titles for all of our platforms to date, and it is likely that we will do so in the future for PS3," a Sony spokesperson told Kikizo, adding that the company hasn't yet decided on when the new range would be announced for Europe or which games would be included in the first batch.
