Epic Scuppers Gears of War 2 Speculation
That's not to say the game doesn't exist, only that the company isn't yet talking openly about it.
Rampant speculation in the media about a possible sequel to Xbox 360 breakout hit Gears of War has prompted developer Epic to step in to clarify matters.
US magazine GamePro indirectly started the fracas. The cover of its latest issue is emblazoned with the Gears of War logo and makes mention of a sequel. Going by the cover alone, several publications speculated that the magazine contained information about a sequel to the game.
Such an announcement has not yet been made, though, as was made clear by Epic's Mark Rein in a post on the Gears of War forum.
"It is complete nonsense," Rein wrote. "We have not announced a sequel to Gears of War to GamePro or anyone else for that matter."
Gears of War was released on the Xbox 360 in November 2006 and quickly became the best selling game on system. In 2007 Epic released a PC version of the game that includes new chapters not seen in the original version.
