Microsoft Confirms Gears of War Sequel
And it's coming to the Xbox 360 later this year.
It was with some fanfare and little surprise that Microsoft on Wednesday confirmed what everyone has suspected for more than a year already: Gears of War 2 is coming to the Xbox 360.
Already announced as both a regular and standard edition release for this Autumn, Gears of War 2 picks up the story as Marcus Fenix and his band of brawny brothers go up against the marauding Locust.
A brief, stylized teaser trailer played during Microsoft's keynote at this week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco sees gruff protagonist Fenix taking a chainsaw to one of the alien invaders. No gameplay footage was shown, but Epic did talk about enhancements to its popular Unreal Engine 3 game creation tool.
No story details were revealed either, though the cliffhanger ending of the multi-platinum original suggests that there won't be too much of a surprise start to the sequel.
"To our team the original game was just a tease, the appetizer to the Gears of War characters and new style of gameplay. We were so amped to get to the next chapter, and dig deeper into the universe of this franchise," Epic's Cliff Bleszinski said at the event.
"Gears of War 2 is an even bigger, better, and more badass experience than the first game, and we can't wait to get it in the hands of eager gamers this November."
