Screens, Details for SOCOM: Confrontation
Scalable maps, new camera and more coming to Sony's other PS3 shooter.
Sony said last July that it is working on a PlayStation 3 instalment in its successful SOCOM: US Navy SEALs shooter series, but things have been quiet since then. This week the company is breaking radio silence on SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation, ahead of a slew of coverage of the new game about to explode onto the scene.
In a post on PlayStation.Blog, David Seymour, design director at Vancouver-based Slant Six Games, said that Confrontation, is "looking, playing and feeling better than ever and we are working hard to get it in your hands as soon as possible."
Seymour briefly mentioned two maps of the maps that will be included in the game.
The first is Crossroads, a favourite among SOCOM veterans, which will make its return in an enhanced form in Confrontation. Then there's an unnnamed new map that features as one of its centrepieces a heavily damaged shopping mall.
Early screenshots show off the new over-the-shoulder camera that will debut in Confrontation, but Seymour passed along a message to allay fears that this would be the only perspective allowed.
"There is an option to use classic SOCOM camera!. It looks and feels like the original classic camera!," he wrote.
Confrontation will support online play with up to 32 players, with maps scaling to accomodate larger groups.
SOCOM: US Navy SEALs Confrontation was originally due in November. No release date has been mentioned yet, but with Sony starting to push the game, that information is likely due soon.
