Rock in hand as Guitar Hero Comes to DS
First screens of Activision's strangely wonderful new DS add-on controller.
The success of the Guitar Hero series over the past two years means it's no surprise to see the game branching out to new platforms. What is surprising is that Activision is preparing a version for the DS.
Of course, there's no way to plug a full guitar into Nintendo's sprightly portable, so Activision has done the next best thing, creating a fret board peripheral called the Guitar Hero Grip that is slapped onto the outside of the portable, leaving the touch-screen for strumming.
Guitar Hero: On Tour is being developed for DS by Vicarious Visions, a studio that has worked extensively with Activision, on the Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk series and the recent Transformers game too.
Just because it's smaller, doesn't mean this version of the game will be any less meaty. Activision is including local multiplayer over WiFi, allowing DS owners to play together or go head-to-head. The game includes five new venues and six characters, two of which are new to the series.
There's no confirmed track list yet but Activision has said that Nirvana, No Doubt and OK Go (of treadmill music video fame) will appear in the game.
Guitar Hero: On Tour is coming to DS this summer. Find out more at www.guitarheroontour.com.
