Kratos Crashes as Prologue Tops UK Chart
Sony's racer has the best opening ever for a PS3 game.
With the full version of Gran Turismo 5 not due until sometime during 2009, PlayStation 3 owners have to make do with the Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, an abbreviated introduction to the game. Britons don't seem to have a problem with that.
Sony's new racer went straight to the top of the chart, enjoying the best opening week of a PlayStation 3 game yet, and the 19th-best debut of any game released in the UK. Overall the figures are likely even better, as Chart Track's data does not account for sales of the game on Sony's online PlayStation Store, which saw the game arrived belatedly over the weekend.
There was more racing success for Sony further down the chart, as PS3 launch game MotorStorm re-entered the Top 20.
Also new in stores were Sega's Norse adventure Viking: Battle for Asgard (No. 8) and PC expansion Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath (16) from EA.
Things didn't work out quite as well for Sony's God of War: Chains of Olympus. Despite heavy advertising from Sony, the PSP prequel entered the chart at No. 29 - a long way off from the chart-topping debut of last year's PlayStation 2 game. However, that was still enough to make it the best-selling PSP game for the week.
Below are the Top 20 games across all formats for the week ending 29 March, as determined by Chart Track:
