Single player is easy to ignore, but it is somewhat necessary to unlock new characters, as well as trophies, stickers and the rest of the plethora of unlockables available. The classic one player game is straightforward, the same as it was before - and very easy. Unless you stick the difficulty up a bit and the computer cheats.
Is it apparent yet that Brawl has pissed me off dozens of times? Because it has. It really, really has. And wireless controllers being thrown around the room is not the best thing.
But back to single player - there's also the Subspace Emissary bit, which is... well... pointless. It's like the adventure mode of Melee and it feels just as superfluous as that one did. It has too many godawful platforming sections, goes on too long and it just feels like a massive afterthought. Really could have lived without it - put more minigames in or something.
Oddly, the home run minigame has taken up far more playing time than most other modes combined. Hmm.
I don't know - I do feel as if I'm being like all the other plebs on the internet and slating something just because everyone seems to love it, but Brawl really hasn't clicked with me. Nor has it clicked with the friends who've played it with me. It's far too random, far too button bashy, and yet at the same time far too hard for the novices to know what the hell is going on.
It's certainly a game that can kill a bit of time between a group of friends, and it's not like there'll be many negative memories associated with the game afterwards, but I just don't feel it's that good.
