Mario 128: Screenshot World of Lies
Dirty, fake screenshots hit the internet - but they're still worth a butcher's. Plus - top secret invisible Mario plans revealed.
As is often the case in the amazing world of online videogame news, some sites have been mercilessly tricked, this time into thinking that these are the first ever screens of Mario 128.
The actual truth is that they're not; in fact they have been circulating around the magical Internet since early December last year, and although the source is unknown, they're likely to be fakes conjured up by an anxious Mario devotee.
A Nintendo insider today told us, "This is not Mario 128".
Games experts today said there is a 1.28% chance that the screens might actually be leaked development images from the game.
They would at least hold true to the rumoured, mystery two-dimensional/three-dimensional (or "2.5D") element that could make Mario the most innovative platform game from Nintendo in years.
If the screenshots are accurate, then Mario may well feature as an invisible character throughout the game. This would indeed confirm the huge originality Miyamoto pointed towards when discussing the enigmatic GameCube project last year.
Stay tuned for the first proper news - hopefully around E3 time.
