Starbreeze Brings Darkness to Next-Gen
Riddick creators confirm comic-based game en route to unnamed next-gen machine.
The movie might not have been all that, but Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay for Xbox proved to be a more than worthwhile effort from Swedish developer Starbreeze Studios. Last year the company announced that it was developing a game for next generation consoles for publisher Majesco. Starbreeze revealed on Monday that that project is an adaptation of the popular comic book The Darkness from Top Cow Comics.
In the game you play as Mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, a ruthless assassin with supernatural powers. Jackie's abilities come from The Darkness, which acts as both a curse and a blessing for the young man.
The Darkness is being penned by Paul Jenkins, who previously worked on the comic book. Gameplay is, in Starbreeze's words, a seamless and unique blend of modern crime drama and supernatural horror through first and third-person, non-linear gameplay. It will also feature both a singleplayer story-based campaign and online multiplayer.
Outside of the general description, though, little is known. More will be revealed at E3 in May.
