Far Cry Hitting Consoles This Summer
Island-borne Hawaiian shirt mayhem coming to a home platform near you. More screens inside.
Lush tropical forests and sandy beaches are hardly the usual fare of first-person shooters, but then Far Cry is not your average first-person shooter. The PC original wowed gamers and critics last year and now it's coming to consoles as Far Cry Instincts.
Playing as freelance mariner Jack Carver you arrive for a job on an island overrun by mercenaries with aspirations of world destruction. Unlike the herd of other games in the genre, Far Cry: Instincts demands more from you than simply offing everything that moves. Instead, you'll need to scope out the terrain before you make any brash moves, set traps to catch guards unawares, and use the impressive long-range views you're afforded to take enemies out from a distance.
New to the console version are extra locations not found in the PC original and full Xbox Live support. Better still, budding level designers will be provided with tools to create their own levels, which can be edited and played nearly simultaneously, allowing you to see how your changes affect gameplay on the fly.
Far Cry Instincts is in development at Ubisoft's Montreal studio - home of the Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia franchises. The game is being prepped for release on Xbox and PlayStation 2 this September.
