Stargate Still Open as Developer Hits Back
Previously red-faced developer now red-faced with anger instead of embarrassment.
Australian developer Perception has blasted publisher JoWooD for a press release JoWooD put out earlier this week that suggested it would be stopping production of Stargate-SG1: Alliance, an upcoming game based on popular TV show Stargate-SG1.
Perception has countered JoWooD's combative and, it says, libellous statements, saying that it has signed the licensing agreement with MGM, the producer of the TV show, and that JoWooD would not be able to take control of the license if the contract were to be killed.
JoWooD alleged that Perception was not holding up its end of the contract, but Perception has lashed back, saying that JoWooD had itself breached the contract in the past.
"It's disappointing to hear of this so called termination via the press on the basis of a "get in first" tactic," said Perception CEO Ben Lenzo.
"This further suggests that JoWooD do not understand the terms of the contract. We are not surprised by their behaviour or lack of appreciation for the goodwill Perception has afforded JoWooD on many occasions."
Perception is now taking the matter to court, but the good news to come out of this legal mess is that development of the game is carrying on.
