There's also the Mad Mud Match mode, which as the name implies, takes the fight from the wrestling ring out into a mud pit where the girls slip on their teeny weeny bikinis and slop around in the mud. The 'naked' appearance of the girls when covered just right with mud provides the Mad mud match mode with 'some' entertainment value, unfortunately it's not enough to keep it entertaining for long and it's surprisingly the least appealing of all of the game modes.
For the most part the characters control well, although the controls could definitely use a few tweaks here and there just to tighten things up a little better. Players can block, counter, perform basic punch and kick combos as well as some devastating grappling moves, some of which are original, and others that are based on their real world techniques like chokeholds, leg whips, submission leg locks, back breakers, pile drivers, suplexes, and various types of slam.
Despite the glorified exploitation of the game's female cast, the wrestling engine underneath the hood actually works pretty well, allowing for fast paced arcade thrills and some small sprinklings of sim-styled wrestling, as players can methodically wear down their opponents by working on different body parts, wearing them down and actually injuring them.
Short sequences of the wrestlers lying in the ring riling in pain are triggered whenever their bodies have been punished enough and an injury has occurred, setting them up to fall victim to your Lethal, Killer, and/or Humiliation special moves. Finishing off an opponent can be handled in a number of ways but what fun would it be without utilizing the special moves in each girl's arsenal? The girls are equipped with Lethal & Killer moves that can be pulled off quite easily with just the simple press of a button when close enough to an opponent.
And to help groom the next generation of peeping toms is the game's Gallery mode where players can view individual grapplers within a locker room and beach setting. Players can keep themselves busy ogling their girls with the help of some intrusive angles made possible by the fully controllable camera. You can also check out their profile, listen to their voice samples, entrance themes, and all that good stuff. Just make sure you keep both hands on the controller!
I can't help but think of how far the industry has come since the early 16-bit era where issues were made over a small nude statue in the Genesis/Megadrive game, Storm Lord, and the skirt-wearing female enemies in Capcom's Final Fight had pants thrown on them in the U.S. release for the Super Nintendo.

THE VERDICT:
Roses certainly takes catfighting to the extreme. Serious wrestling fans looking for a sim with depth and a detailed playing options should consider looking elsewhere but for many gamers it will be tough to pass up the opportunity to roll around in the mud with these chicks.
While the lack of expansive move sets and match types makes for a game that's almost as bare as its ladies, Rumble Roses is still a pretty entertaining wrestling game that, with a little more work could have been an A class contender. As it is, Rumble Roses is an above average wrestler that will hopefully be improved in a few areas when the franchise inevitably reappears for Rumble Roses 2.
