Excite Truck
Redefining arcade racer expectations?

Nintendo's Excite Truck for Wii smashed preconceptions about what we should expect from arcade racers - about as subtle as a ram raid using one of these trucks on a fully stocked china shop, Excite Truck manages to deliver a full-on adrenaline rush.
Using the Wii remote as a steering wheel, initial control of the game can be tricky, as you find the balance between keeping the truck straight and moving it slightly to the left or right, as opposed to getting full lock for a corner.
There's a tutorial to ease you into the game, showing you steering, boost (which I'll come back to), jumps, and landing. All of these pick up points in the game, and each plays its own part in getting enough points to complete a race.
"Performing stunts can be the last thing on your mind while trying to hold first place."

Races take place on rugged off road tracks with five other competitors. Before each race, you're informed how many star points you'll need to accumulate to get a 'B' grade and pass. To get the 'S' grade, you'll really need to nail the track with all the big air, smashes, tree runs and stunts that you can.
Holding the controller like an old school NES controller, 2 is accelerate, 1 is brake (forget about it!) and handles stunts in the air. The stunts are quite difficult to pull off and don't feel natural; you hold down the 1 button and shake the controller to spin your truck round (it's not much, but hey, they're big trucks!).
However, as you need to steer while in the air and tilt the controller to land your truck for a speed boost, performing stunts can be the last thing on your mind while you try and hold on to first place. Note that you don't have to finish in the top three to score enough points to pass a level. You do however get a substantial points boost should you come in the top 3, so on the later levels you really need a first place finish to pass the course.
