Redefining arcade racer expectations?

The boost makes Excite Truck totally unlike anything I've ever played. Boosting with the d-pad sends afterburner flames out your exhaust, and raises your temperature gauge. Boost for too long and your engine will overheat, however driving through water or getting air under your tyres cools the engine down. Master the knack of boosting just after you hit a jump and you'll send your truck flying for miles down the course. Who needs MotorStorm?
If you land all four wheels on the ground then you get a significant boost burst for the next few seconds. The boost turns Excite Truck into a game wholly worthy of its title; you'll spend more time in the air than on the ground in the later tracks, and landing on top of opponents and boosting off their wrecks is enormously endearing.

Not only is there your super boost function; the track is littered with power ups to improve your race and cajole your opponents off the track. Exclamation marks on the track terraform the level itself with impressive visuals, and open up short cuts or mess up your opponents' chances (believe me, your chances are messed up when half a mountain lands on your roof!).
Mountains flatten out and end in a nice ramp that you hadn't noticed before, and any cars ahead of you in this process are likely to be catapulted up at random earning you further bonus points. As you progress, you'll unlock better trucks, which in turn make it easier to complete the more difficult courses.
The trucks all look good on the screen, although the levels themselves are not as nicely detailed as you would expect - that's if you take time to notice them as you streak past at a gazillion miles an hour, before hitting a speed bump and catapulting yourself over Everest into pole position...
