Yoshi is a popular dinosaur, and we'd been eager to get his Koopa-swallowing skills into action to save the babies of the Mushroom Kingdom from the evil Magikoopa, with the help of Baby Mario and friends, for some time in Yoshi's Island DS.
Any Nintendo fan will be familiar with the gameplay here. Old school two-dimensional platforming is the order of the day, and Nintendo does it best. Yoshi's Island is a beautifully drawn, colourful and playful place. It's also full of the cutest baddies you'll see in a game. Smiley happy faces disguise the danger from Magikoopa's minions as they try to hurt you and steal your nappy wearing helpers away.
Yoshi's powers are the same as ever; he can jump, flutter in the air, and has an exceptionally long tongue and speedy digestive system to catch baddies, swallow them and lay them out as eggs to be smacked off their evil friends' heads. This must be pretty horrific for any Shy-guy who happens to be swallowed by the green reptilian nanny.
The babies are a big part of the action in Yoshi's Island DS, and each has his own skills. Take baby Mario with you for running speed and an ability to find hidden blocks. Princess Peach has an umbrella that will carry you Mary Poppins-ly over gusts of wind and high through the levels. Baby DK can climb vines and throws eggs with extra ferocity, causing them to explode. Baby Mario and Baby Bowser also join the quest later, and lend their own peculiar powers to help on the way.
